Why you must have a website

Let me tell you more. Don’t worry. We’re not going to bore you with technical jargon here.

A website is the first thing most businesses pay attention to nowadays (or should pay attention to). Why?

Not everybody have a store in a busy shopping centre where thousands of people walk past every day and see what you do. A lot of businesses are run from home, an office park or a not so busy shopping centre. So, how must people know about you and your business? Well, lots of ways actually, but probably the most important is to have a website.

Luckily for you and me a small little company was started on September 4, 1998 ( 4 years after Francois Pienaar and Nelson Mandela lifted the world cup trophy for South Africa) by two Stanford University PH.D graduates. They called it Google. Today Google is the most visited website in the world. The first funding for Google was an August 1998 contribution of US$100,000, their annual revenue is now more than 50 Billion US dollars. The corporation has been estimated to run more than one million servers in data centers around the world (as of 2007) and process over 3.5 billion search requests per day. The world would never be the same. Have a look here at how many searches was run on Google today.

3.5 billion search requests per day, that’s where your website comes in. This is how people look for a business today, gone are the times when you open a Yellow pages to look for a business, they will now Google it. And not only from their desktop computers, Google also own Android that powers cellphones. Together with Apple’s IOS mobile operating system they rule the mobile world. People now have the power in their hands to search for a specific type of business from their cellphones that’s always at hand.

Doesn’t matter what product or service you are looking for, you can type it into Google and instantly find the business you are looking for, in the area that you choose. It is now easy to compare businesses, their prices and what they have to offer.

That means that the world has become a much smaller place. You don’t only have to order a product from your local store anymore. I recently ordered some photography equipment from a website in China. Not only did it cost me only two thirds of what I would have paid in SA, they delivered it to my doorstep within 4 days after I’ve paid for it.

We run a wedding photography and videography business business as well. Most of our clients find us on Google, they search for wedding photographers in their area, look at their websites, compare the quality of the photos and prices, and make a booking. Nowadays most of our wedding photography clients don’t even meet us. The fact that we have a beautifully designed website and all our weddings and photos are on there for our customers to see makes it possible for a customer to book us without meeting us. That means more time to do what we do best. It saves us time, and thus saves our customers money.

I think you are starting to get the idea. Your website is your consultant, the first contact that your potential customer will have with your company. But he/she will not only search for one business in your field. Because it is now so easy to compare businesses they will look at your competitors’ websites as well.

The question is. What will they find? Will you stand out from the crowd? Because I can promise you this. The chance that they will phone the businesses with the best looking website first is VERY big. Nobody likes to deal with a consultant that looks unprofessional or doesn’t know everything about his/her product. Remember, your website is your consultant! Here we can also assist you, not only with the designing of the website, but to take professional photos for your website or making a promotional video for your website.

Talk about finding your business, you might have a beautiful website, but is it optimised so that people can find you when they look for your product or service?

Want to sell your products over the internet? We can build an E-Commerce site for you, just like the one in China where I bought my photography products from. Now people all over the world can buy from you, not only the people in your area.

Is your website mobile friendly?

33% of the people that accessed our website last month accessed it from a mobile device. If our website wasn’t mobile friendly we would have had A LOT less enquiries…and subsequently sales!

Enough said about mobile?

Making changes to your website

If you want to be listed higher up on Google one of the factors that they will take into consideration is how fresh the news on your website is. Obviously a website that was updated a year ago will have less relevant information than a website that is updated regularly. We can build a website in such a way that you yourself can make changes to your website. That means that your website is more relevant and your customers will get the latest news and offerings from your business. You don’t have to be a website expert to make these changes yourself. We will give you a little bit of training (less than an hour) , and that is all the knowledge you will need to make changes to your website yourself.

I can go on and type another few pages on the importance of your website, what it can do for you and what it should look like.

But the best would be if you email or call us right away so that we can discuss your individual requirements. It is a FREE consultation after all!. What have you got to loose?

While you’re deciding whether you should call or email us, have a look at some of the websites that we have designed.
